‘The Wash’ exhibition 2024

Laundry Props
I often likened my laundry prop to the mast of a ship and when propping up the line it felt like I was setting sail, a most satisfactory feeling at the start of a sunny or blowy day. This experience was enhanced when my beloved Aunt gifted me her old wooden laundry prop which had been made from hardwood by my late Uncle.
I wanted to combine my love of painting with these ideas and made my first four props for ‘The Wash’ exhibition.

painterly prayer flags
There is a similarity between laundry blowing in the wind, buddhist prayer flags and celebratory bunting. These painterly prayer flags were inspired by and evolved out of these ideas. They might look a little scruffy at first glance and maybe to some appear somewhat like rags. But in fact they are rather precious and act as a salutation to both my life and my paintings. They are made from the rags that I use to wipe my brushes on whilst painting as well old clothing I’ve kept which often hold memories.
Send me a message if you are interested in purchasing those left available – or if you’d like to commission me to create some, these make a unique and wonderful gift!
